In fact, “beggars” (aka signers or panhandlers) have already started a business. They know the best locations and the best times of day to maximize donations. They just need a product to sell to make the shift from begging to business.<br /><br />RoadStars’ pilot project will start with 50 cases of bottled water and 50 signs. Money for the launch will be raised through $10 donations from friends and family. During the week of March 10, 2008, I will approach signers in the Seattle area to see if they would like to try selling water instead of asking for handouts. They will receive a “start-up kit” for free. <br /><br />Participants will offer the water to commuters for free or a donation. Bottles will be labeled with contact and website information so that donations may be made at any time after the contact.
